TY - CHAP AB - This study discusses the relation between the integration of adolescents and the occurence of health disturbances, especially psychosomatic symptoms. Social relations to parents and peers as part of the adolescent personal betwork have been studied to identify potential sources of tension and support for young people. The empirical results indicate that frequent conflicts with parents increase the probability of psychosomatic stress reactions occuring; in contrast, the social position in the peer group plays a less important role. On average, female adolescents reported psychosomatic symptoms to a greater extent than male adolescents. In spite of reported conflicts, young people accept their parents as a potential source of support. However, actually asking for support has a negative influence on the occurence of psychosomatic symptoms.
