TY - JOUR AB - "Opening the universities to older adults" has been discussed for more than ten years. Previous model projects have emphasized mainly the formation and strengthening of the identity of older people. In contrast, the course “Volunteer in Gerontological Research” introduces a concept of university study for older persons which directly picks up on the classical goals and methods of the university. It is addressed to older persons accustomed to education, who are interested in acquiring knowledge and in post-retirement activities in an exacting field usually unfamiliar to them. With this course of study they become qualified for participating in gerontological research. The following article describes and analyses the characteristic features of the group dynamics in the usual semester work with these unusual students.
