AB  - Spin polarization in low-energy electron diffraction from the (111) surface of platinum, which is geometrically unreconstructed, was measured by means of a Mott detector. Corresponding relativistic calculations yield mostly excellent agreement with the data and clearly favour an ion-core scattering potential model containing an energy-dependent exchange approximation.
