TY - THES AB - Little is known about the effects of historical change on children's psyche since time-lag studies that could give further information rarely exist. Because of this research deficit the study strives to realize a setting and method identical time comparison that could determine and describe possible changes in peer relations of elementary school students as an expression of a psychic alteration. On the empirical foundation of multicriterial sociometric and conventional data that has been collected by the use of time-lag method (Baltes, 1967; Schaie, 1965) in 1971 and 1996 the study evaluates the sensation and perception of relations as well as the mental state of 754 third and fourth grade students from 7 elementary schools. Since time-lag research on children has been widely neglected, and only a few efforts have been made regarding the processing and analysis of affiliated multicriterial and multirelational sociometric data, this study has to put emphasis on the implementation of proceedings that are appropriate for this kind of data and furthermore enables a time comparison of this complex information. The results, of the utmost significance the quantitative and qualitative increase of positivity of intrasexual peer relations accompanied by an increased negativity of intersexual relationships, are discussed in the context of an increased peer orientation and changing sex-role norms. Implications and recommendations for further research and the professional practice in elementary schools are drawn.
