TY - THES AB - Status is an aspect of the performing arts, which is used to help actors depict realistic characters and scences. Actors create realistic characters and scenes by increasing their conscious awareness of status, so that they may clearly demonstrate their relationships tp peolpe, objects, and environments. In psychology this aspect of status could be used to help clients increased their awareness of their emotions and non verbal communication. Furthermore, therapists could use status in order to foster communication and to posetively influence changes in behaviour. However, in psychology the aspect of status is yet to be fully explored. This work attemps to bridge this gap between psychology, social services and the performing arts by offering scientific evidence of the significance of the concept of status. This work suggests the concept of status, as derived from the performing arts, may play a key role in the perception and expression of emotion and emotional communication. Furthermore, an integrative therapeutic conceptualization called Directed Expression, which uses status as a basis for communication, will be introduced and explained.
