AB  - We introduce and study the universal unbounded derivation of a Fréchet algebra with fixed dense domain of definition. As an application we construct new examples of holomorphically closed subalgebras of the reduced C*-algebra of a nonabelian free group. Every trace on the group ring which is supported in finitely many conjugacy classes extends to a bounded trace on these algebras.
